Singapore Young Photographers' Convention 2023

Eligibility

The competition is open to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents residing in Singapore; only those in secondary school and JC / Polytechnic / ITE, or any equivalents can participate.

Teams should only consist of 3 members from the same school. Teams with members from different schools will be disqualified.

If the team is not a full team of 3, the group is ineligible for the top prize.

Each school is only allowed to have one group that has less than 3 members – only if there are insufficient participants.

Photographs that have won prizes in prior competitions or have been used for commercial purposes and/or been published will not be eligible.

Photographs submitted should not be more than 10MB in size.

Entries should be in JPEG format and at least 1600 pixels wide for a horizontal image or 1600 pixels tall for a vertical image.

Digital manipulation that distorts the reality of the photos will not be allowed. Only basic enhancements such as sharpening, contrast adjustment, or simple cropping will be allowed.

The file name for each photograph should be clearly labelled according to the given naming format <Group Number>_<Photo Number> (e.g. 001_1, 001_2)

Each team should submit a total of 6 photos.

Photographs must be taken on the day of the event – during the allocated time slot, from 10.15am to 2.45pm.

Photographs must be taken in / converted into JPEG format prior to submission.

Photos must NOT be in HEIC format & all EXIF data of photos must be extractable.

Entries must be the original and unpublished work of the participant and copyright owner.

The National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) Council, hereby “The Organisers”, reserves the right to keep, publish and distribute the photos submitted for the SYPC. Due credit will be given to the photographer(s) if their work is used.

Images received through the photography competition will not be used for commercial purposes.

The images will be selected by a panel of judges and their decision is final. No correspondence pertaining to the selection process and decision will be entertained.

Entries will be judged based on the following criteria: Creativity & Aesthetic Appeal, Technical Competence and Thematic Relevance

The judging panel reserves the right not to award the prizes if the photographs submitted do not meet the requirements stated.

The winning team must be accompanied by a teacher from their institution to go to Higashikawa. Should this criterion not be met, the Organisers reserve the right to award another group instead.

The Organisers reserve the right to change the terms, rules, regulations, and criteria of the SYPC at any time.

The theme must be directly discernible from the set of photographs submitted.
Creativity and Aesthetic
Technical Competence
Usage of basic photographic techniques such as lighting, framing and focusing in taking the photograph.
